In 2012, Solar Solutions installed Malta’s first ever electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, marking a pivotal milestone on the Islands. Although these pillars have since been phased out, this project has provided us with invaluable expertise in electric vehicle charging, be it with regards to small-scale residential charging setups, or larger-scale commercial and fleet projects.

How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?

This depends on the power rating of the charger, and the maximum charge rate accepted by the vehicle itself. This is why our team will consult with you to determine the constraints that may be available, and effectively align them with your specific charging needs.

Is it safe to charge an EV with a 3-pin plug?

Some vehicles will be sold with a 3-pin charging cable, which plugs in to a standard 3-pin plug at home. Although charging is possible, this is the slowest option available and can take up to 38 hours to charge a battery. There is also a constant load placed on the plug, which could be dangerous if left for a long period of time.

Public Charging Infrastructure Malta

If you are looking to charge your electric car in Malta and Gozo, you would need to access the public charging infrastructure currently operated by Charge My Ride. To use these public pillars, you will need your own personal charging cable. Solar Solutions offer a wide array of accessories, such as electric vehicle charging cables, cable cases, key locks for chargers etc.
